For nearly three years now, Astral (the company that boom 973 is part of) has proudly been supporting and sponsoring Martine Dugrenier, a world champion olympic wrestler from Québec.  Martine officially qualified a month ago to represent Canada in the 2012 London Summer Olympics.  Almost everyone who follows Canada's Olympic team agrees that Martine represents one of our country’s most promising chances of attaining a gold medal.

Martine is already a highly celebrated and accomplished athlete:  

- Three-time world champion (2008, 2009 and 2010)

- Finished in the fifth position at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

- She is an eight-time Canadian champion and was selected a few months ago as Québec’s Athlete of the Year (2011).

In addition to her impressive track record as an athlete, Martine teaches physical education and is completing a Masters degree at the University of Montréal. As part of Astral’s sponsorship and support of Martine, our Radio colleague Christian Tétreault has interviewed the athlete and broken down their conversation into a series of 20 minute long audio clips.

Countdown to London will cover a variety of topics as Martine prepares for the ultimate world championship.  Why did she choose wrestling? How does she manage to balance work and Olympic training? How does she prepare physically and mentally for a competition? This is truly a unique opportunity to learn about the competitive world of wrestling and the ups and downs of Olympic training.
