It was 25 years ago today that rescuers saved an 18 month old little girl who fell into a well in Midland Texas. We got to know her as Baby Jessica. It was the story that changed the way we see the news. CNN was a new force in the world of TV news and they gave us round the clock coverage of her rescue. Since then, relentless media coverage has become the norm. For better and often for worse.

We were riveted and the world drew a collective sigh of relief as she was pulled from the well. People thousands of miles away, who didn't even know her,  cried tears of joy and shared in the jubilation of this rescue! I was one of those viewers.  And perhaps you were too!
