Maie - Now Sugar And Alcohol Free!!

Posted By: Maie Pauts · 8/16/2012 7:45:00 PM

Well I did it! One whole week with no white sugar. And I mean NO sugar. If sugar is listed as an ingredient I have avoided it. So that means no desserts, no sauces, no to many cereals and no to any alcohol.  Oh my beloved glass of wine ... you will pass my lips again but not till I've hit my goal weight. Damn sugar ... it's everywhere!

I really thought that this may be a difficult thing to give up but surpisingly, it really was no biggie. I still have a couple of fruit servings a day and the natural sugar from those seems to hit the spot.

So after a week of no sugar, drastically reduced starches and breads and reduced calories, I have managed to drop 4 lbs. I know I know ... you always lose more the first week .... water weight blah blah blah. But I feel good about it and it has me inspired to go on. Especially since after just a few days I actually felt a little different. I have not once this week had an afternoon crash time where I felt draggy and needed sugar, caffeine or a nap (which is not really in option is it?).

And I've discovered a new healthy snack that cures my craving for sugar and something to munch on while watcing TV.  It's homemade apple chips.  I use Royal Gala apples because they have a nice sweetness to them.  I thinly slice them and lay them out flat in a single layer on parchemnt paper lined baking sheets. Sprinkle a little cinnamon on them and bake at 225 degrees for about 2 hours (or until crisp) They crisp up more once they cool but if still not crispy enough for you just stick 'em back in the oven.

If you have any good no white sugar snack suggestions feel free to share.

Cheers

Maie

Maie - if you really want to 'detox' sugars and starches from your body and get the ketones working - you have to eliminate fruits too. Fructose is sugar. I have a document that I would like to email you - it's the 3 phases of the south beach diet - and it's works! I lost 30 lbs over 12 weeks sticking to phase one for that time (normal is 2 weeks). I kept it off for 2 years and then kind of gave up and went back to old eating habits.

@Coco Hi Coco. That's great success that you achieved and congrats for keeping it off for 2 years. That's ultimately the challenge isn't it?

Great idea for the chips, I love it. Like you I never worried what I ate but ate pretty healthy except for the awesome food groups of beer and wine. I'm on ww (as of last week) to drop 15 lbs or so, so it's not as drastic as you're doing, however I'm learning to love Canadian67. I'm rooting for you & look forward to your success!!

    Hi Maie,
The chips ideas is cool:) If you want to make something sweet, use honey. Also, I only eat the way my grand -parents did, meaning no processed foods and synthetic junk (I find it hard to classify that as food).
In tandem with a good diet is some excercise, and it does not have to be heavy nor elaborate- do things such as push-ups, crunches, squats, calf raises, etc. All of this will help to MAINTAIN your goal- I know because I have not had any problems my entire life.
Maie, you are a VERY attractive lady, and can only get better by doing what you are doing.
By the way, I am the one who learned English through 70s & 80s music.

P.S.- Just recieved this from a friend (no chance to read it fully- seems weird):
