BAD - minton! How to Get Sent Home from the Olympics!

I must admit, even before the games began I kinda snickered at Badminton being considered an Olympic sport. Perhaps it's because it's a game I play at the cottage and I am so far from being an athletic/sports kinda gal.

But I understand that when it's played well ... it's a fast, dynamic game that requires skill and athletics. But not so at this year's Olympics. There was a preliminary match on Tuesday for four women's doubles teams and they figured that by throwing the matches they'd face easier opponents at the medal round.  So all four teams went out trying to lose on purpose!  The fans and officials figured it out.  They were booed and warned but they continued the shameful play.    Yesterday, the two teams from South Korea, one from Indoniesia and the defending world Champs from China were all disqualified and sent home by the IOC.  China accepts the decision while the other 3 are appealing but in the meantime this has put Canada back into medal contention. YAY!!

Good for the IOC for showing that it won't tolerate that nonsense. I have also heard they are changing the way medal contenders are matched.

Anyhoo ... here's a sample of what the disgaced matches looke like.  By the way, it's still is better than my game!
