Home Sweet Styrofoam

Posted By: KJ · 5/21/2013 4:30:00 PM

Could you live in a styrofoam dome house? While styrofoam may be most commonly associated with disposable coffee cups, meat trays and packaging, you can actually use it to construct easy-to-assemble modular kit homes! Well... maybe you and I can't, but somebody's on it.

For only $30,000, one of these could be yours. All you need to do is buy a lot, and you've got yourself a home for just under $100,000! This is the next level granny shack! They actually look nice too. I wonder how it handles Canadian winters?

You have to see it to beleive it! Check out the pictures below.

A Cat's Diary

Misunderstanding Cats

My mother would always tell me “I like cats! On a pillow. Over there.” She didn’t want to concern herself with anything feline. She knew you can never do right by a cat, and didn’t want to waste her time trying. Cats are so much work, so hard to please. Fickle. Strange…

Looking into the inner thoughts of a cat, I see now that we will never truly understand cats. And I wonder, can people and cats ever come together? Can we ever make them happy? How long would we have to hold the door?

Poor cats. So misunderstood. So sad. It must be so hard for them.

WHO LIVES LIKE THIS?

Posted By: KJ · 5/3/2013 4:00:00 PM

When I was a kid my parents loved to go for car rides and look at houses. I felt like I was trapped and couldn't get out, but eventually I started looking at the houses and thinking: "Hey that is a nice house!". So to this day, I enjoy driving around and looking at houses... and dreaming.

You know, looking in their windows, seeing what they're doing, what's going on. You have to see these houses. The Dick Clark Flintstone house is amazing. I don't think I could live in the Transparent House in Japan - my neighbours would complain. And the giant seashell house in Mexico - while beautiful - I imagine that this is what it's like to take acid everyday. If I had to pick one, maybe the slide house.

If you enjoy looking at houses, you'll love this:

It blowed up. It blowed up REAL GOOD!

Here's a show that Big Jim and Billy Sol from SCTV would love. It's a brand new show on Discovery Canada called "Never Ever Do This At Home". Honestly, just watching this video makes me think that this is the greatest show of all time. All they do is blow stuff up.

You can tell the guys doing the show just love it. In each episode, the two dangerously unqualified hosts precariously mix, ignite, flood, explode, and otherwise wreak havoc on the contents of a charming old farmhouse in southwestern Ontario - no appliance or fixture is safe in their hands!

It blowed up. It blowed up REAL GOOD, in the name of science.

It starts May 6th on Discovery Canada.

MasterChef Champ

I'm a big fan of MasterChef. MasterChef is a competitive cooking reality show, open to amateur and home chefs. It is co-hosted and co-produced by Gordon Ramsay. It's a different Gordon Ramsay on that show though. He doesn't tell anybody to piss off, and he's actually nice. So there is a softer side to Gordon Ramsay. The new season kicks off May 22nd at 8PM on FOX, and I can't wait.

Christine Ha won last season’s Master Chef Reality Show.  She’s also blind!  Her new cookbook is coming out May 14th. Christine's won doing what she knows best, Vietnamese comfort food.

Here's some of Christine's best moments from last years MasterChef.

Armadillo Eggs. You Haven't Lived Until You've Tried These!

Take a big whiff... Spring is in the air! BBQ season is just around the corner, although a good Canadian will BBQ any time, any where, in any weather. Here's something that caught my eye - so easy, even I could make it.

Troy McCallum actually made these the other night and raved about them. You've got to try Armadillo Eggs! Next time you fire up the BBQ or have friends over and you want to impress, give these a shot!

Happy Barbequing! Here's to the nice weather!

Would You Eat Out Of This Dish?

Okay... I’ve never been a big art guy, but this artist is worth a ‘wow’ blog.

This is real... ART from the incredibly talented Keng Lye's lifelike aquatic series “Alive Without Breath”.

A little acrylic paint and some resin, and you have a 3-D masterpiece (or a great practical joke). Looks like a painstaking process of layering resin and paint, but the end product is amazing. I also dig his choice of canvas – plates and bowls.

It’s a unique take on seafood. Hungry?

Check out the series on Deviantart, or watch him in action below.  I've attached a few pieces of his work below the video.  Amazing!
