In 1978, John Taylor and school friend Nick Rhodes formed Duran Duran with Stephen Duffy while attending school in Birmingham England. &amp;nbsp;Taylor originally played guitar when the band was founded but switched to bass guitar after discovering the funky rhythm of Chic and enjoyed playing with a newly recruited drummer Roger Taylor. &amp;nbsp;John also has worked on solo projects and a film career including a lead role in the movie Sugar Town. &amp;nbsp;

Nancy went to Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle where she majored in art and German literature. She did solo gigs until she moved to Canada to join her sister in Heart. &amp;nbsp;While Ann is the lead singer on the majority of Heart songs, Nancy is the lead vocalist on notable tracks like "Treat Me Well" "These Dreams" "Stranded" "There's the Girl" and "Will You Be There (In The Morning)" and frequently performs background and harmony vocals.

In early 1985, Vince Clarke put an ad in Melody Maker&amp;nbsp;for a singer, and one applicant was Andy Bell,&amp;nbsp;who was a fan of his earlier projects such as Depeche Mode, The Assembly, and more. He teamed with Bell to form the group Erasure, and the duo became one of the major selling acts in British music with international hits like &amp;nbsp;"Oh L'Amoure", "Sometimes", "Chains Of Love", "A Little Respect", "Chorus", "Love To Hate You", "Take A Chance On Me"&amp;nbsp;and "Always".

When Pete Willis left Def Leppard, Phil Collen was asked to join by Steve Clark and Joe Eliott.  Collen took this place after an audition performing Photograph.   He and fellow guitarist Clark quickly bonded, becoming close friends and leading to the trademark dual-guitar sound of Def Leppard. He and Clark became known as the "Terror Twins," in recognition of their talents.

In 1980 Jonathan Cain left his previous band "The Babys" to join Journey, replacing Gregg Rolie. Cain aided Journey's rise to the top of the charts starting with the album Escape, composing and playing the piano on songs such as "Don't Stop Believing", described as "one of the best opening keyboard riffs in rock".  Perhaps his most notable contribution was as sole author of the classic Journey ballad "Faithfully", a song about life on the road while in a band.

Hansen started his career as an independent studio singer. He later met guitarist Robert Sarzo and and bassest Tony Cavazo (brothers of Rudy Sarzo and Carlos Cavazo, respectively, of  Quiet Rito fame), with whom he formed the hard-rock band Hurricane in 1984.  Hansen then went on to join Foreigner in 2005 after Lou Gramm  left in 2003 to pursue his solo career.  Hansen is the third lead singer of Foreigner, with Lou Gramm and Johnny Edwards being Hansen's predecessors.
