Album Review

This two-fer reissue from the always consistent Wounded Bird features tracks from the Bulletboys' 1991 Freakshow, and 1993 Za-Za (their last album on a major label). Why Wounded Bird opted for Za-Za over their eponymous debut is anyone's guess, but nevertheless these two records show a band struggling with their identity, as well as a rapidly evolving pop music climate that was slowly pushing the aerosol-laden metal bands away and replacing them with more sensitive flannel-shirt-wearing types. When compared to Za-Za, Freakshow is at least moderately consistent in tone and scope, something woefully lacking for the remainder of their major label days. This one is definitely for fans only. Casual listeners are encouraged to seek out the greatest-hits compilation for all of the Bulletboys they could possibly ever need.
