Moving in a slightly different direction but retaining that tasteful, warm temperament, Ben Watt presents his second volume of deep house -- a good portion of it originally released on Watt's own Buzzin' Fly label. The new direction that Watt is embracing is more of an electro sound, like the sequencer that bleeps over everything on Sofian Rouge's "El Wahrania." DJ T's "Time Out" is a throwback to when quirky electro ruled and Watt's own "Pop a Cap in Yo' Ass" could have fallen out of Juan Atkins' record box, but veteran fans of Watt and his Lazy Dog project are going to find that same old smoothness coolly holding it all together. It's what draws the line between Watt's work in Everything but the Girl and his releases on Buzzin' Fly, and what makes this mix so satisfying for laid-back evenings.
