Despite his general popularity, tenor saxophonist
Jimmy Forrest only led this one session after 1962. Recorded less than two years before his death,
Forrest was at the time co-leading a group with trombonist
Al Grey. This live club date (released on a 1982 Palo Alto LP and not reissued yet on CD) features
Forrest in a trio with organist
Shirley Scott and drummer
Randy Marsh. Although nothing too unexpected occurs on the five veteran standards (which include "Annie Laurie," "Take the 'A' Train," and
Forrest's big hit, "Night Train"), the swinging and soulful music is quite infectious.
