Album Review

Featuring a wide selection of alternative, experimental, and techno artists, Whore is an affectionate tribute to Wire and the band's reckless creative spirit. Unlike most tribute albums, Whore isn't a collection of soundalike tracks. Instead, the bands use the original songs as a blueprint, creating interpretations that are as faithful to their own sound as they are to Wire. Though the songs are uniformly excellent, the most noteworthy track is "Map Ref. 41*N93*W," which is My Bloody Valentine's third track since 1991. Though it doesn't show the band exploring any new territory, it is a terrific reminder of the band's inventive, intoxicating sound.
