This Hep LP contains the Mills Blue Rhythm Band's second batch of 15 recordings; all have since been reissued in the Classics CD series. With the addition of altoist Charlie Holmes, the no-name ensemble had its first major soloist. The orchestra was improving during the period, gaining a stronger musical personality, and there was less of an urgency to include insipid singers. Billy Banks does a good job during his three vocals, and such numbers as "Savage Rhythm," "Snake Hips," "The Scat Song" and "The Growl" feature some strong ensembles and concise, heated solos.
