For this album, bassist
Slam Stewart planned a wide-ranging program that (with the exception of "Flat Foot Floogie") would consist of lesser-known material, including two songs by his wife Claire Stewart. Mostly recorded 16 days before
Slam's death, the date features vibraphonist
Peter Appleyard, pianist
Richard Wyands, guitarist
Bucky Pizzarelli, drummer
Sherri Maricle, trombonist
Kent McGarity and tenorman Al Hamme providing swinging playing and melodic solos. The project was nearly completed when
Stewart became sick. Bassist
Major Holley filled in on a few later bass tracks and guitarist
John Pizzarelli helped out with a vocal on "Sertoma." The results are a fine close to
Slam Stewart's productive career.
