This is a rather unusual outing for veteran pianist
Lou Levy, since eight of the ten selections have both
Eric Von Essen, who doubles on cello, and
Pierre Michelot on basses, along with drummer
Alvin Queen. The large number of bass solos make this set of more limited interest than expected, but
Levy's fine bop-based playing and some excellent originals uplift what could have been a lesser effort. Worth investigating.
