Playlist: The Very Best of Weather Report functions as an adequate sampler of the group’s first nine albums, from 1971’s Weather Report through 1980’s Night Passage. Given that the majority of those releases are exemplary fusion albums, there’s bound to be plenty of “very best”-worthy material that does not make the cut. That’s definitely the case here, as the average WR fan could probably cite at least six crucial missing pieces off the top of his or her head. This should (hopefully), nonetheless, provoke further investigation.
