When I turned 29, I told my wife "Honey, I'm 29 until further notice!"

Well.....I think that 'further notice' just arrived.

The topic of 'Life In Your 40's' is broad enough, of course, to fill a self-help book. In fact, we 40-somethings are at the perfect--transitional--age when we feel vulnerable enough to actually want to do a bit of "Self-helpin'".

There are books, concerning our concerns in our 40's, on just about every topic you can think of: 'How To Feel Younger'(who cares how you feel; it's how you look that matters, right?)...'Coping With Your Teens' (good luck with that!)...'How Husbands and Fathers can Avoid Having A Complete Melt-Down While Dealing With Your Pre-Menopausal Wife AND your PMS Daughter At The Same Time' (Otherwise referred to "Yes, Dear").......or how about this one, 'Pissed All Your Money Away? How To Finally Start Saving For Retirement!' (....before it's too late and you're screwed).

Then there's all those so-called 'encouraging' sayings on birthday cards:

--"You're only as old as you feel" (Awe, Crap! Sciatica, sore lower-back, gray hair and knee-surgery; I guess that means I'm actually 90).

--"Forty Is Sporty" (Yeah, 'sporty' alright; when you buy a sports car you can't afford; can you say, "Mid-Life Crisis"?).

.....and on it goes. My wife just said that you know you're middle-aged when you actually sit down and use the public Blood Pressure monitor at Shopper's Drug Mart!! (And she did, last night...used to be something we'd laugh about!).

But, seriously, this is a time when you can look back over all your accomplishments, especially the relationships you've built with your spouse, kids, friends and family.
