Packing The Car

Posted By: Matt Storey · 8/6/2012 8:00:00 PM

Okay, so you're getting ready to head up north somewhere camping and it's 1 a.m. the night before; oops....better get the car packed.

The driveway light is burnt out and you don't have any spare lightbulbs so, yeah, you're juggling stuff to put in the car in one hand and a flashlight in the other. Why aren't the kids helping? They're in bed. Your wife? She prepared all the food and went to bed.

You don't want their help anyway because they'll just screw everything up. You have a system and to fit all that stuff into the minivan plus 4 people or more, ya gotta stick to the system or you'll end up having a complete Clark Griswold breakdown.

So, here goes: tents, folding chairs, cooking stuff, heavy personal bags and anything else heavy go deep in up behind the back seats. Crap...gotta take out or lower the back-back seats first. Okay, then light stuff on top of everything else--especially the bags with things like bread, potato chips, etc. and breakable stuff like lanterns and so on. Whew. K, now that the back of the vehicle is fully jam-packed (with one teeny-tiny gap in the middle at the top so you can see (barely) behind you while you're driving) grab all the soft stuff like pillows and sleeping bags and stuff those all around where the kids' seats are. What a sight that is; driving 2 or 3 hours up north, you look back at the kids and they're completely buried under pillows, blankets, sleeping bags and all the odds and ends you forgot to put in until the last minute!

Now, off to bed. 3hours sleep 'cause you want to get an early start.

Next morning everyone and everything ready to go...or so you think..

...you think you're all set to get on the road until your wife comes out of the house with 3 large bags, another box of food and.."Honey, you also forgot the cooler!!"

Awwwe, crap!!

Anyway, you finally get it all together, get up north, have a great time and then...

...ya gotta pack everything back up when it's time to come home.

And even though there is now less stuff to bring back...

..you still can't fit it all back in!!

Yeehaaa! Good times!!
