Thanks a lot, Spielberg!!

There are two things that just don't mix: my love of swimming and Steven Spielberg's genius film-making.

It's been almost 40 years since the debut of 'Jaws' and I still get completely freaked-right-out whenever I go swimming near the drop-off!!

There's such a feeling of vulnerability when you're swimming in deep water--black endless depths all around--and your legs just dangling there. This is an occasion when a vivid imagination is not a good thing.

Or, how about water skiing when you wipe-out and your friends in the motor boat just keep driving further away all happily, leaving you helplessly floating alone in the water with your feet dangling amongst some kind of nasty sea weed as you wait helplessly for something to come along and bite them right off. "C'mon, guys, turn the boat around and get-me-OUTTA HERE !!!"

....And then there's the excitement...and spookiness...of shipwrecking. Every summer, my family and I love exploring the sunken 'treasures' of Georgian Bay. Snorkelling around the shallow-water wrecks is awesome...and not so scary. But floating above the ones that lie in deep, dark-blue water...well, let's just say that's when OCD really kicks-in; after a few minutes, I've totally convinced myself that Great White sharks can, indeed, live in fresh water!

Regardless, my love of the water doesn't stop me from going in....

....except near that nasty drop-off....

"Duhn-duhn....duhn-duhn..."
