For this edition of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s magazine blog, we wanted to point out a common trend within the music industry: musical collaborations between lyricists and musician songwriters. Since the creation of networks like MuchMusic and MTV in the 1980’s, music videos have become the popular way of promoting music by adding visuals to enhance the overall experience. It has since become a common trend for musicians to enlist the help of celebrities to grace us briefly with their fleeting presence in the ever-captivating music video cameo role.

Whether appearing as themselves or acting out the role of a fictional character, celebrities are almost always instantly recognizable. It’s quite possible that the power of familiarity is what adds that extra something special to a music video, making it that much more enjoyable to watch.
