The Hollywood Hills are alive with the sound of The Ramones, and have been for quite some time. These flicks all feature songs by the band.

200 Cigarettes (1999) – This dramedy boasted a slew of big names: Ben and Casey Affleck, Dave Chappelle, Kate Hudson, and Paul Rudd to name a few. It follows a number of interrelated characters on New Years’ Eve in New York City, 1981. The movie features “I Don’t Care” from The Ramones’ third studio album Rocket to Russia.

The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) – This Wes Anderson film also had a star-studded cast (Anjelica Huston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Gene Hackman, Ben Stiller, Bill Murray, Danny Glover, Luke and Owen Wilson). It tells the story of three siblings who achieve big success as children and bigger failure after their father leaves them. “Judy is a Punk” from The Ramones’ eponymous debut studio album is included in the film.

Shrek the Third (2007) – The third installment in the Shrek series chronicles the search for Arthur Pendragon, potential heir to King Harold’s throne. The animated movie featured “Do You Remember Rock ‘n’ Roll Radio?” the second single from the album End of the Century.

Whip It (2009) – Whip It marked Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut. It stars Ellen Paige as a small town misfit teenager who joins a roller derby team. The movie premiered at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival. The soundtrack includes “Sheena is a Punk Rocker”, also from Rocket to Russia.

Charlie St. Cloud (2010) – This Zac Efron romantic drama is based on Ben Sherwood’s novel The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud. Efron plays the title character who must choose between a promise made to his dead brother or - you guessed it - pursuing a girl he loves. Charlie St. Cloud makes use of The Ramones’ cover of “California Sun” from their album Leave Home.

Date Night (2010) – An action comedy starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey, Date Night follows a couple who gets a lot more than they bargained for during their search for excitement. Mobsters, corrupt cops, and a very shirtless Mark Wahlberg all join the nutty party that is Date Night. The soundtrack includes “Blitzkrieg Bop”, also from the Ramones’ debut album.
